SAUNA FOR ROCCO

This outdoor sauna is a unique oasis that is built into the hillside along the western edge of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, NY. In addition to the unobstructed views of the lake, the natural hill provides insulation and helps the concrete act as a thermal battery.

The board formed concrete cubes is internally clad with cedar boards and enclosed by a pivoting glass wall. The top of the structure is merged into the landscape above. As the project ages it will further blend into the environment.

On behalf of Rocco Design + Build, architect Dillon Pranger, commissioned various design representation drawings to visualize the project and develop the material approach in relation to the unique site conditions.
